About Haenyeo Days
Breathing through it all, and making things happen.
1. The Story Behind the Name
Welcome to Haenyeo Days.
In Jeju Island, Korea, there are legendary women divers called ‘Haenyeo’ (해녀). Without any breathing apparatus, they dive deep into the cold ocean, relying solely on a single breath to harvest life from the sea. They are the ultimate symbols of resilience, peace, and freedom.
But to me, ‘Haenyeo’ has a double meaning. In Korean, it also sounds like “a woman who achieves and gets things done” (해내는 여자).
2. Ocean Logs & Daily Essays
I am an ordinary office worker navigating the waves of modern life. But on the weekends, I become a free diver, finding my true calm beneath the surface of the blue ocean. Whether I am surviving the chaotic city or exploring the deep sea, I am learning to ‘breathe through it all’ and make things happen.
Haenyeo Days is a collection of my ocean logs, local travel guides, and daily essays. It’s a story about diving into the sea, holding my breath, and discovering how to become a woman who beautifully achieves her own life.
Thank you for diving into my days.
